Hypersomnias are a group of sleep disorders that causes a person to be excessively sleepy. People with hypersomnia may fall asleep at times that are inconvenient or even dangerous, such as at work or while driving. They may also have other sleep-related difficulties, a lack of energy, and trouble thinking clearly. Narcolepsy is the most well-known hypersomnia, but there are more disorders that fall under this classification
Narcolepsy
This lifelong sleep disorder makes you feel overwhelmingly tired, with the potential for sudden uncontrollable sleep attacks. Narcolepsy can impact nearly every aspect of your life.
Idiopathic Hypersomnia
Idiopathic hypersomnia causes disabling daytime sleepiness and occurs despite a normal or increased nightly sleep time.
Insufficient Sleep Syndrome
Insufficient sleep syndrome occurs when you regularly fail to get enough sleep at night. The result is sleep deprivation. This keeps you from feeling alert and well rested during the day.
Long Sleeper
Long sleepers regularly sleep much longer than other members of their age groups. Their sleep is normal and of good quality, but because of the demands of work or school, long sleepers may not get the amount of sleep that they need.
