Gregory Arneaud

Clinical Director

As a respiratory therapist, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial proper breathing is to our overall health and well-being. What many people don’t realize is that our ability to breathe while we sleep impacts not just our day-to-day functioning but the long-term quality of our lives. Breathing is such a fundamental part of life that we often take it for granted, but sleep apnea—this silent epidemic—goes tragically underestimated in how it affects every part of our lives. It isn’t just a matter of feeling tired or snoring at night; it’s a condition that affects your heart, brain, weight, and even mental health.

I was inspired to write my book, The Wake Up Call: How You Sleep Is How You Live, because of my personal experience growing up with a grandmother who snored loudly for as long as I can remember. As I grew older and became more educated in respiratory therapy, I began to realize that what we had all considered a simple nuisance was actually sleep apnea, a dangerous condition that contributed to her struggles with dementia, glaucoma, obesity, and hypertension. Her health issues were interconnected, and I saw how sleep apnea played a significant role in her decline. That was the wake-up call for me.

Understanding how sleep apnea quietly wreaks havoc on the body, causing not just breathing issues but also impacting heart health, cognitive function, and overall longevity, made me realize how widespread and dangerous this condition is. It’s not just about being tired or losing focus during the day—it can shorten your lifespan if left untreated. I realized that if more people knew how their sleep quality directly impacts their health, they could take steps to live longer, healthier lives.

That’s why I’m so committed to spreading this message. On a day-to-day basis, through all the platforms I have access to—whether it’s speaking engagements, partnerships with health institutions, or media appearances—I’m actively trying to make a difference by educating people on how important sleep really is. It’s a simple yet profound truth: how you sleep is how you live. In fact, how you sleep may determine how long you live. This understanding has driven my work, and I’m passionate about helping others wake up to the importance of addressing sleep apnea before it’s too late. My goal is to reach as many people as possible and empower them to take control of their health by prioritizing their sleep, because it’s real—it matters, and it’s something we all need to be talking about.
